Can I get recommendations for teething foods?

Filed in Category Pediatrician Recommendations

My son is 6 months old. He has been on solids for one month now. His pediatrician said, when I started him, that to only give him solids once to twice daily, so I feed him solids for lunch and dinner. Well, when my husband’s grandma has him, and some days when my husband has him, he gets solids for breakfast and solids for lunch. I then give him solids for dinner because it helps him sleep well at night, and, well, I want to feed him, too! So I asked his dr today about that. She said to give him teething crackers or vegies/fruit that will just dissolve in his mouth. That way it keeps his mouth busy, let’s him eat without actually giving him a “meal” cause it takes a while to dissolve, and then he only gets solids twice a day. I want to buy these items to give to his grandma and my husband to give him in the morning if he is still hungary. She suggested Gerber brand, but when asking my friends, they said that they don’t like the Gerber brand. Does anyone have any brands that they love for the dissolvable fruit or buiscuts? Please give the brand name and where to buy them! Thank you for your input!

Gerber does have teething biscuits. They’re great! They can be found in the baby food aisle at any grocery store.

My 4 kids everyone of them loved the Gerber brand but they were not picky eaters at all. I haven’t seen any other brand that makes them in the same melt in the mouth kind of way that is just right for this stage in baby’s eating habits. You could try dipping the biscuits in a bit of cereal or pureed fruit and sweeten the deal a bit! But, I think if you call over to a Whole Foods store or a Trader Joes – maybe they have one of those expensive healthy brands that would perhaps be more expensive – I think Earth’s Best has a line of baby products that are organic. Not everyone carries Earth’s Best and not everyone carries all of their products and I haven’t seen them come out with the teething biscuits yet. Wait – they do have some – check this out – they even sell them right online: http://www.earthsbest.com/products/category/72.php Oh and there’s another website with some great recipes for MOM’s BEST brand! http://www.homemade-baby-food-recipes.com/teething-biscuit-recipes.html You have to be careful before you give any biscuit to baby at this stage that it doesn’t fall apart into little chunks that baby is not yet ready for – you just have to watch baby closely – but you should be doing that with any of the beginning kinds of biscuits. That’s why I actually prefer the Gerber brand since they are prepared just right to suck on and melt into baby’s mouth.

My daughter LOVES the Gerber Wagon Wheels but she can hold them herself. They are meant for babies that can hold the food themselves and sit up on their own so be sure he has met these milestones first. We also give teething biscuits and I have found Gerber to be the best. The organic brand are always broken when I buy them.

Honestly, you need to just ask GGma to stop feeding solids in the morning so that you can keep your regular schedule and not interfere with baby’s routine at home. You can simply tell her the doctor advised you to only feed two solids per day and that you both choose to do lunch and dinner only for now. Too many solids could become a problem.

That’s just me : My daughter is 8 months old and Jaiden is lucky if she gets a solid meal EVERY day of the week. Usually we will give her a biscuit or wagon wheel instead, but otherwise she does just fine on breast milk alone.

Just go to the store and buy tetthing biscuits. Buy what ever, no matter what tey all get messy. They are designed to get soft, not to be bitten into.

Also a small handfull of cherrios are good as a snack.

They also have these little things in the baby dept. They look kind of like a pacifier, but it is a little mesh bag on the end. So you plop in some fruit such as cantalope, oranges, or popsicles or crushed ice even. Or soft veggies are good too. Like frozen peas, or cooked carrots, beans, etc… Then they just chewand suck with otu any worries of choking. I loved those for my kids.

We got our son the brand Earths Best teething biscuits. My son loved them and so did my husband and I…LOL…but like all teething biscuits they are a bit messy so try to make sure he is in a high chair…

    Great luck to you!

Ugh. I hate the gerber biscuits. Bleh!

We used to just freeze apples/applesauce in icecube trays and then put it in the mesh feeder as a little popsicle. My son loved it! Worked really great for teething

Gerber has really great product that I used when my daughter was teething and it helped out a lot. It’s called Zwieback Toast, it’s just hard enough for them to gnaw on but it practically melts as they try to chew on it. I gave it to my daughter when she was teething @ six months and by the end of the night her tooth broke through the gum

Personally I like the Gerber brand.. I haven’t tried any other one.. They have these stars that dissolve in their mouth and it comes in a variety of flavors.. They also have this toast called something like “zwiesbach” (not sure how its spelled lol) which my baby lovessss chewing on and it tastes great aswell

Go to toys r us or babies r us and look down the sippy cup aisle. They have these little mesh holders you put fruit in. Freeze the fruit first, then put it in the mesh holder, and let baby gnaw on it. That way, there isn’t a choking hazard, it’s nice and cold to the gums, and with it frozen it’s hard enough to be bitten. Other than that try teething biscuits. Or do both and switch it up a bit.
