I am an LPN currently enrolled in a school to earn my RN. I am working on an associates degree in nursing and had planned on then getting my bachelor’s degree and masters with intentions of being a pediatric nurse practitioner. I am taking a class on human develop and discovered I am very interested in child psych. Any thoughts about how to combine the 2? What kind of degree would I need to do therapy? I’m thinking developmental, not really mental health stuff. Thanks!

developmental peds. get a master’s in that after you finish your RN.
Adolescent psych nursing! Many hospitals have in-patient units for children with acute psych issues. The nurses on these units often assist in the therapy aspects by conducting groups and activities on the unit with the kids.
You don’t have to have another degree other than your RN license, but if you went on and complemented it with a psych degree, or earned a master’s in nursing and became a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, that would be great.
I did a summer internship in nursing school at a hospital in adolescent mental health. It was awesome. Sometimes very disturbing, but very rewarding also.
What you are already going for, RN, then specialize in children.
