My dumb ears been acting up lately and tonight it seems to reach my breaking point to where i am about to cry. My mom is finally calling my pediatric doctor tomorrow or clinic doctor i don’t know she just said doctor. So here has whats been going on with me long story so grab some chips or drink or 2. I am 16 years old.

hears how it all started read below.

it all started a couple of nights ago when i was laying in bed i got scared that night i do every once in a while like ill think of bad stuff then get freaked out and in panic mood i don’t know why i just do. Then i got all hot sweaty panic attack i think happen, then i think i got dizzy a little then all of sudden i hear this humming sound it starting with the humming sound. So i got freaked again so i told my mom to give some sleepy pills or pain meds that calm me down aka sleepy meds.. So i thought the humming was from me being freaked out till that night i herd it again. Then a couple of nights later like maybe 2 or 3 days later i hear thumbing sound or thud sound what ever u want to call like a heart beat sound i cant describe it any other way. The a few days or 1 week later i hear this water sound in my ear but i think that is normal because my mom has it to but i think mine gets louder then hers. The week after that my ears start to hurt on and off all the time for 5 mins, then just today i herd a thud thud sound then got dizzy with the room spinning a little bit not a lot only a little i do get dizzy spells every once in a while but i usually get a different sound not a thud thud sound i liked the other sound sign better because this one is scary. Oh ya i almost forgot tonight i just started hearing this windy sound. I am about ready to chop my ears off!!!

So now i am spouse to go a concert and i am scared it will wreck my ears even MORE!! but i have to go if its going to be the last thing i hear its going be my fave band.

What do u think i have?

Or any advice to help me calm me do so i don’t cry anymore?
let me know if i should move this to a different spot. please answer this question really worried and sad. my mom gave me a warm rag but it did not help one bit.
i don’t know if my neck has anything to do it but your neck is conected to your ears right? well my neck been hurting a lot lately from sitting up and even sitting back. so i don’t know what the heck is going on wit my i am falling apart.

My 13 year old daughter has the following recent medical history. Please let me know if you have any ideas about what could be the cause.

First, 2 years ago, she developed mono. (Idk if this is relevant)

Then shortly after, she developed a skin rash on her hand. It comes and goes every few months. At first, I believed it was a contact rash, but it comes and goes.

Her fingers and toes (and occasionally her arms) stiffen up and are extended where she cannot move them.

Then for the last year, she’s had back pain. We did a diagnosis of a bulging disk that would explain that one.

For several months, she’s had joint pain in her shoulders, neck and various other joints. Her joints pop with movement.

For the last couple of months, she’s experienced severe muscle spasms – a few per day.

The most recent symptom (about 10 days now) has been her eyes twitching.

Her physical therapist also told her that her hips are misaligned, and one leg in 1 inch longer than the other. We are suppose to see an orthopedist in a few weeks to see about getting a shoes/shoes insert made to compensate the height difference.

Her orthopedist doesn’t know what’s wrong w/ her (beyond the bulging disk) He didn’t even get the fact about her hips or height. We are getting a referral to another orthopedic clinic, but it will be a few weeks.
Also, her current orthopedist suggest she see a pediatric rheumotologist and pain clinic. We cannot get an appt there for 3 months though.
Meanwhile, she is in constant pain and the symptoms seem to keep adding up… Please give me your medical thoughts on this.
Thank you both for the very informative answers. Douglas, I am going to try the excersize with her. It definiteky sounds like a possibility. Gizzy, I am going to see if that was a test that may have already been performed. If not, I will make certain it is. The current drs may be saving it for the pediatric rheumatologist, but surely we can go ahead and get it taken care of before then. Thanks for the insight guys. I’m putting the question up for public vote b/cI just can’t decide. Thanks again.

I have a 14 year-old daughter who has autism. She is on the high-functioning end of the scale (is verbal, capable of self-care, etc.). The pediatric psychiatrist we have been seeing for medication management left the area about a year ago, and we are not happy with the replacement doctor suggested by the clinic that employed our previous doctor. Does anyone know of any doctor, pediatrician, psychiatrist, or other, who specializes in treating/managing patients with autism in the northern Utah area? I am not comfortable with the DAN (Defeat Autism Now) protocol and so prefer a more conservative medical approach. Much gratitude to all who answer, and 10 points for best answer! Thank you!

Ok so I work for a moderate sized pediatric office/clinic and we have about 50 employees. I am on a committee of 3 called the “sunshine committee,” which plans all office events and holiday decorating etc. I am going to be handing Easter this year and want to know what kind of activities could we do. I need someone who is very creative and detailed but simple and easy. For Halloween we had people guess the weight of a pumpkin and whoever got it right won something like a double sized electric blanket or scened candle basket from yankee candle. For Labor day we have a 20 question quiz people had to answer and whoever got the most right got 25 dollars worth of lottery tickets and the runner up got 15 dollars in lottery tickets. For New Years, we had everyone (or whoever brought them in) bring in baby pictures and we posted them on a bulletin board for 1 week and had people vote as to who they were, there were prizes for the top 3 but I don’t remember what they were because we are on a budget so we just bought stuff at wal mart that might be cool to get. We just like to do one fun activity with a prize but I need something quick, easy and something where all of us do not need to be together at the same time because of the nature of our work that is not possible. So any ideas for Easter office games would be GREAT!!!! Tell me your experiences too! For best idea, I will award best points!!

THANK YOU!

My first child has had a history of developmental delays. He has been with Early Intervention (State funded program) since 9 months old for PT; they were saying it looked like he had mild hypotonia. During this time, we noticed that he was having feeding difficulties. He had no interest in feeding himself, and wanted nothing to do with the food we ate. He always pulls a stink face and refuses another bite; eats stage 2 foods only.

When he was 12 months old, we discussed our concerns with his doctor and she recommended further therapy so we set him up with a local pediatric rehab clinic in town. His feeding therapist evaluated him and he failed on most social milestones, (wasn’t pointing, waving, imitating, etc.). We also placed him in OT and has been pre-diagnosed with a sensory processing disorder.

A few weeks into therapy, his feeding therapist gave me several papers regarding autism and that she felt that my son needed to be tested for it sooner than later. I’ve been constantly worried about it ever sense. I decided to bring this up at my son’s 15 month check up. Being a good doctor and sensing how worried I’ve been about his development, she referred us to the specialist team.

I heard that it can take months to get an appointment, so I called right away. I was scheduled an appointment when my son was 16.5 months old.

As with every child, each has their good things and the bad things:

Good things:

- Great eye contact
- Babbles frequently since 7 months old.
- Plays peek-a-boo with us. He looks for us when we play it. He doesn’t cover his eyes yet, but I think it is related to his sensory issue
- He is pointing now. He is starting to learn to point to things he wants
- He is waving, but only waves when he wants, which seems to be about 33% of the time
- He loves to cuddle
- Generally seems attentive and alert and engaged
- He responds to his name about 70% of the time (the other times he may be distracted, other times, I’m not really sure why he isn’t, his hearing is fine) Is 70% of the time at this age normal??
- He is a fast learner, just needs to be shown things over and over at first
- So far he hasn’t regressed with anything
- When pointing to something, he looks to what we’re pointing at most of the time
- Has some receptive language, about 30 words
- Can follow very basic simple commands, though lately not so much, but might be because he is finally learning to walk and might be getting in the way?
- Can do hand actions to songs (wheels on the bus, if you’re happy and you know it)

Red Flags:

- He flaps his hands, usually when he is excited
- He was not pointing or waving at 12 months of age
- No words
- He loves ceiling fans
- He isn’t playing with his toys the way he should. He is not spinning car wheels or lining up toys, he just bangs them together or shaking them, (what you would expect from an 8 month old). He drives cars slowly and cautiously
- Continues to have same feeding difficulties
- Sometimes he will open and close doors/drawers over and over. But he has never done this for more than about 2 minutes. He finds something else to do on his own.
- This one is concerning me the most, that I can’t figure out what or why he does this, but it’s a self stimming behavior that he trembles/shakes his arms and makes ‘uh’ sounds. He will usually look like he’s staring at something while doing it. It looks like he is casting a spell. Usually he does this in the high chair, but has done it periodically about everywhere and can last seconds to minutes. He has done this since about 10 months old. He does this everyday, some days more than others. But it is embarrassing to me as he brings a lot of unnecessary attention to himself in public. I don’t take him to restaurants anymore. We can snap him out of it by giving him toys, or singing to him. Sometimes he’ll go back into it when we’re done though. It’s just exhausting to keep trying to distract him. We have been told that deep pressure helps, but I haven’t had luck with that or from a SPIO suit.

My son has been seen by a developmental pediatrician, and other doctors present at that time. They feel that he is too engaging and they are not worried about autism. They said that his self stimming behaviors will go away through time. Should I see someone else? Did we take him in too early?

Sorry this is long, just thought I would get some insight from anyone! I feel so alone and confused that doctors have said no to autism.

As great of news as that is to hear, the fear of autism hasn’t gone away. When my son is around other children, it is a constant reminder of how different he is. For example, he will just play with a car by himself, or notice that the wheels move on a shopping cart. He is overall attentive and alert, but there are times when I feel he is not. The self
In June, (he was 15.5 months) we took him to a pediatric neurologist and he said the same things as the developmental pediatrician team in July. He felt my son was too engaging and that the self stimming behavior would go away in time, and to continue his current therapies. We’ve pretty much been told that he looks to be a ‘late bloomer’ and that he will be fine. No one has suggested a follow up visit. I didn’t feel very good with that answer, so that is one reason why we brought him into the developmental pediatrician. But I still don’t feel good about it. But now I have lost all support of my family because they think I’m just worrying and I should trust the professionals’ opinions. :/
