I was heartbroken this week when my dr told me I should not breastfeed due to medications I am required to take. I must take the medication and the pediatrician said it is not work the risk to the baby to breastfeed. I am due in a week and had not even considered formula – so I need advice from other moms. What formula do you recommend and why?
Thanks for the recommendation “Obber”, I did get a 2nd opinion from a neonatologist and was also told not to breastfeed since the medication I am on can affect her brain development. I plan to nurse the first day or two so she gets the colestrum (against dr orders) but I believe she should at least get that!

I am new in town so i can’t get “advice” from freinds. I asked my ob for recommendations but the name she gave is a doctor who will shortly no longer take my insursance. I’m not picky, but I just don’t want to choose anybody since this is my child’s doctor. What questions can I ask during the prenatal visit??? I know there must be hundreds but I really just want to know which ones you really think may help me determine if they are going to work out. Like I don’t need the “what do you feel about shots?” or “what is your opinion on circumcision” or where did you go to school?” I know most of these will have similar answers and won’t distinguish one doc with the other. Also I called one place and their receptionist suggested the one out of the four that is the least busiest and therefore I could get into all my appointments. Hmmm… that makes me think the others would be better recommended if I did have freinds to ask, though still a good doctor. What do you think?

Is it crazy to call the ped about what my daughter is eating (or in my case NOT eating)?
I have some questions about their recommendations. I want them to give me some insight…I am at my wits end with all this crap.
My 5 month old will hardly take a bottle-if she does, she doesn’t finish it. She is only getting around 20-24 ounces of formula a day. She will not take more. It is a struggle to get her to take that.
As far as solids go, the ped did tell me I could start feeding her at 4 months. I did give her cereal, but that filled her up too much, so we stopped that. I have given her fruits and veggies, but only 2-3 times a week. I thought the reason she didn’t take her bottles was from eating solids. So I stopped ALL solids for over a week, and she still doesn’t want her formula. She LOVES her sippy cup (I have given her some water in it), but I can’t get her to take all her ounces of formula from a sippy cup. She does have a taste of whatever we are eating (when she reaches for it), like potato and bread and peas. She never eats table food off a spoon though. Just either with her hand or from my finger.
So, with all this sickness going around at the doc’s office, do you think they would have time to talk me through what to do here? I don’t want to bother them with crazy stupid stuff.

**Sorry, I didn’t realize this was so long**
Yeah, she is meeting her milestones-she is happy, and seems to be very healthy. She is around 16 1/2 pounds and is probably 25-26 inches long. So, she is proportionate.

my baby is very colickly, its been really diffcult to the extent that i passed out a few times from extreme exhuastion when i first had her (i also had a c-section and left the hospital the next day) as nobody was around to help me, my mom is a big shot pediatrician who’s terribly busy and my husband was having problems at work so i was kinda on my own but anyway i managed and i’m managing much better now and most nights i sooth her and we get to sleep for like 6 hrs which is fine by me. anyway i live in egypt, so healthcare is not really upto a great standard but all my family are doctors and my mom is my ped. her recommendation for my baby’s colic is drugs. wether colic drops, gripe water, i dont mind these as they are mostly safe but they dont work so she started advising me to give her antihestaminics to make her sleep. she even bought me one that contains a major tranquilizer. she says it’s perfectly alright and they do it all the time with very diffcult babies and she wont get used to it or anything she’ll outgrow it by the fourth months and i should help her to rest and rest myself. i’m totally against drugging my baby and i dont do it, i use soothing techniques and i try very very hard and she’s getting better. anyway, does this mean my mom is a bad doctor? should i not trust her anymore? its very diffcult for me as she’s one of the best and most famous ped. here and i cant go anywhere else cuz she is bound to find out and it would be disastrous between us and she’s the only one i have even though she’s very busy and doesnt really help so much but she’s the only one who is actually there apart from my husband ofcourse..and i dont wanna be judgmental but i think thats how she dealt with my crying and my lack of sleep when i was a baby so she insists i do the same..what should i do??
sadie, i don’t get what is odd in my profile..she did stay with me the first two weeks because i was very much in need of any help, she had the flue, was terribly busy, only saw her at night when she came to tidy up abit then sleep and she tried her best not to give the flu to my baby but it just happened so i dont really blame her for it she was only tryin to be there for me when there wasnt anyone else..also i didnt say i cant “ask” other doctors, i did ask a collegues of my mom in passing when they call to congratulate…but not “officially” asking…

My daughter is almost 6 weeks old. She was on Enfamil Lipil for her first week. She had constant bms, about 10 times a day. Then she was on soy and lactose free formula which gave her painful gas. So then she was on gentlease until last Friday. She is now on Alimentum. I had told her pediatricians that she was allergic to milk, but they would not listen. I also told them she has acid reflux but they again didn’t listen. Last Thursday, she was screaming bloody murder for over a hour and I couldn’t get hurt to calm down. It was her feeding time, but she refused the bottle and continued to scream. I took her to an after hours pediatriciacs center at the recommendation of my pediatrician. They told me she definately has a milk allergy, acid reflux, an ear infection & a sore throat. However, my pediatrician did not allow for her to prescribe the drops for the acid reflux as they wanted to. So I took her to her pediatrician the next day & they said she didn’t have an ear infection. But they
said she does have a milk allergy and to put her on alimentum. They wouldn’t prescribe the acid drops. So my husband and I decided to get another opinion. We took her to an allergist. He said she does have an ear infection and prescribed the acid drops. Now I just spoke to her pediatrician and they are trying to say she doesn’t have acid reflux. She has constipation. Which she definately does not have. She did not have a bm on Saturday, but that was the first time ever. And she did not go because she is adjusting to the formula. And they do not believe she has an ear infection.

Our pediatrician discovered a click in my daughter’s left hip. In addition to that her tushie creases do not line up. we went for a sonogram with a technician and doctor. The doctor confidently told us that her hips are fine. Our pediatrician now says that we still need to have a Orthopedic Pediatrician review the results. Unfortunately she cannot recommend one:(

Can anyone help with a recommendation of a doctor or even just some advice? My daughter is 4 months old. If there is something wrong i’d rather know now and deal with it but i’m not sure what to think here. We live in Queens, it would be awesome to find one close to home or at least in the city.

thanks in advance.
