Last week my 12 yo daughter had a severe landing on her neck while vaulting in gymnastics. The MRI revealed a torn muscle in her neck. She has alot of pain, swelling in the neck and her face, no reflexes in her arms but full range of motion and some tingling in her arms when raised above her head and she is in c-collar. However her doctor can’t get her into a pediatric neurosurgeon until June 9th at dallas children’s hospital. The treating physician has told me to completely limit her physical activities to none bc of the tear possibly getting worse and causing possible paralysis (this has freaked me out) she is a very active child 30 hrs a week in gym etc, sitting still drives her crazy, anyway if it is this severe shouldn’t we be trying everything to get her seen by a specialist before June?? Any suggestions or ideas would be so appreciated.

Yes, a paralysis is a life threatening and life changing event. She definitely needs to stop all physical activity. Especially no more running. If you have the money get a second opinion.
You have to confide to her that if she doesn’t obey her doctor then she may be in a wheelchair the rest of her life.
Sometimes bad things happen to us all. Watching videos of paralyzed or disabled people may also help change her mind.
I’d be finding another Dr. immediately if she were my child. Don’t wait!!
