Has Anyone Elses Pediatrician Recommended Giving A Baby Benadryl For Sleep Problems?

Filed in Category Pediatrician Recommendations

No, but they didn’t act like K not sleeping through the night was an issue and I didn’t present it to them as an issue either, so they haven’t given any advice on that subject.
A friend of mine said the county “smart start” nurse who checks on new babies at home (if you sign up) told her to use Benadryl to get her son back to napping. It didn’t make sense to me because it seems that he’d nap great only if he had the meds, not like it would transform his sleep habits when she stopped using it. When she told me about that, I looked on the website and I think it had a warning not to give kids under 4 (not sure of the age–def. not babies) benadryl.
If the doctor recommended it for its normal purpose, I might give it to her, but I don’t think I’d be comfortable giving it to her for sleeping.

nope never has. i wouldn’t do that anyways. plus some children actually become hyper on benadryl. a friend of mines children needed benadryl for some reaction both kids got and her daughter fell asleep and her son became a super hyper child who was running in circles. so ya don’t give your baby benadryl get a new doctor if you are concerned about it

No, that is child abuse. If you were to do it & someone called the social services, they would whisk away your baby in a snap, rest assured. If your pedi is saying that s/he is insane & you should report.

If your Pediatrician recommended that; it is time for a new Pediatrican. That is totally irresponsible.

    Um no.
That is advice I would never listen too. Your not supposed to give cold medicine to kids under the age of 6, that’s what my kids pediatrician told me!

NOt at all and he would be fired if he did. I believe using medication for thigns other than it’s intended purpose is illeagal as well.

My doctor has never recommended me to give anything to my daughter to help her sleep. That seems a bit weird.

NO! My doctor said it could actually have the opposite effect and it isn’t safe to use as a “sleep aid”.
