Im 16, im currently in a community college getting my associate degree so i can be a nurse.
After i get my RN license, i am totally planning to apply to universities, as it has been my life long dream to become a pediatric surgeon or neonatologist. I really love helping people, and I really love the sciences. ALL of them, but I have a real passion for medicine. I find it so fascinating it’s what i really want to do with my life. The only thing giving me doubts, is the fact that i have always wanted to have a family too. I feel like i wont have enough time to have and raise a family if i follow my dreams. I will be too old to have children by the time i would be ready if i was in school to become a doctor. I wont be applying for medical schools until im 22. The hours are long, and im not going to have kids if i don’t have enough time for them.
So i guess my question is, is it worth it in the end?
not having a family, but having a great career?

pick children and you’ll NEVER be a doctor.
pick doctor and you’ll be a mother when you’re 39.
make your choice.
let the game begin.
i am currently at a university and i was planning on going to medical school but then i realized that there are some other careers in the medical field that pays almost the same, but without wasting your life
i decided to go to pharmacy school instead!
Do NOT get a nursing license if you want to be a doctor. There is no overlap between nursing classes and premed requirements. And it will negatively impact you during medical school interviews. All of the reasons you listed for why you want to be a doctor can be accomplished as a nurse, so they will have no reason to accept you.
That being said, you can have time for a family and being a doctor; plenty of doctors do it. Not all doctors work ridiculously long hours (private practice, plastic surgeons, etc). Go find a doctor that has a kid and ask them how they balanced their life.
