Not unless you want to make his constipation worse and increase his chances of allergies, GI upset, and obesity.

If he’s exclusively breastfed, the chances of him being constipated are very small. They do reach a point where they go longer between pooping and seem to strain to poop as they get used to the sensation, and this is often mistaken for constipation.

If he truly is constipated being exclusively breastfed at three months, you need to see a pediatric GI specialist, and keep a food diary of your own foods to see if you need to eliminate anything.

Not unless you want to make it worse. You should always consult a pediatrician before changing his diet and when you think something is wrong.

No. Your baby is WAY to young for any kind of solids (and yes, oatmeal IS a solid) and you’d be likely to make matters worse, not better.

It’s pretty rare for a breastfed baby to get constipated. Does he poop pellets, or has it simply been a while since he pooped? The first is constipation, the second is normal. Some breastfed babies can go up to a fortnight between pooping!

First of all, oatmeal will make someone more constipated. Second, the only thing that you should feed a newborn is either breast milk or formula until around 6 months of age. If you believe that your child is constipated (very uncommon for a breast fed baby) then you should consult with your pediatrician.

I wouldn’t do that. Ask you pediatrician about it instead. In an extreme case I’ve used glycerine suppositories, but not sure if 3 mos is too young for that.

Exclusively breastfed babies do not get constipated, although they can go 5-7 days between large, soft movements. Neither oatmeal nor any other remedy is necessary, and should not be offered or tried.

Constipation is a hard stool that is difficult to pass. I suspect that is not the case with your baby.

Oatmeal will constipatee her more.. breast fed babies can go 5 days and then that's when you give her medicine not heavy oatmeal.
