Is that too young for a proper diagnosis? We have an appointment with a pediatric developmental specialist but it’s not until late August. I’m just wondering if anyone else has this issue with a young toddler?

OCD typically relates to behaviors taht stem from deep rooted anxiety. It is very unlikely in toddlers. Young children thrive on repetition and routine, it is the way thier brains develop and learn so depending on what hte specific behavior is , I wouldn’t worry about it.
You sound very concerned to the well being of your baby., that is good. I think toddlers on this stage really show what it almost seem like OCD because they are discovering a lot of things and want to really master them and hone their skills. They reall can get so attached into one thing and to one thing alone. They encounter their favorites, and not so favorites, and new favorites!., I have read in one of my books not to worry about it.
But for your peace of mind, there is nothing wrong in asking your pediatrician and submitting your son for evaluation. The professional will be able to decide wether to pursue a diagnosis or not.
And don’t forget to breathe. You and your toddler will come out of this just fine.
