Martin Luther KIng Hospital is in a very poor and underserved community, run by the county. Now, the City Council wants to close us down. Where are the poor supposed to go for care, especially the babies that are premmatu, born with drugs in their system, people with no helath care coverage at all. This hospital is in desparate trouble. If celebrities speak up, maybe we can draw some attention to the situation.
By the way, Mel Gibson has been here, Chaka Chan comes to sing for the kids at Christmas time, our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was named after Rosa Parks. They have closed it down. THEE best NICU in L.A. What is the point in being a celeb if you don’t use it to help other people.
Oh yeah, by the way, our Governor has had comments concerning this – but we really don’t where he stands and has not been to our facility to speak to us. This hospital will be broken up department by department by November 6, 2006, including residents who come here to learn their craft.
