He said they are both pretty much the same. Has anyone had experience with either of these two formulas?

LOL about the cheese nip smell!! That is exactly what I thought!!
Anyways, they are the same formula, just made by the different companies. My daughter did better on Alimentum than she did on the Nutramigen.
You may want to give them both a shot and see what works best. They are both equally expensive, so cost isn’t a factor.
I have experience with both. I guess it all depends on the age of your child. If you have a baby over 4-5 mo old I would recommend Alimentum because it tastes slightly less bad to the baby. My twins were 6 mo when their ped recommended nutramigen but they wouldn’t drink it and made the worst face in the world when I would try to give it to them. Even mixed in their old formula they could taste it.
Alimentum was slightly better…but we never got them on it alone (but they would drink it mixed)
The Nutramigen seemed to agree with my son better. He was a big spitter upper and the Alimentum seemed to make him cry everytime he spit up. Like it was too acidic or something. The Nutramigen was much better. They are both kind of nasty smelling (you get used to it) but the Alimentum smelled really bad to me, like that cracker, Cheese Nips. (weird, I know!!
