What must I do to validate my foreign physical therapy degree in the USA to be able to work there?
Filed in The Category Pediatric Therapy
Hi all, I’ve been thinking about pursuing a future working in the United States as a physical therapist. I think Florida is where I’m more inclined to go as I used to live there and I’m more familiar with the state.
I’m a U.S.A citizen myself. However, I am currently studying Physical Therapy in Costa Rica. Over here the degree is a 4 year program, which graduates me as a “general physical therapist” with knowledge in most or all areas of PT including hospitals, clinicas, rehabilitation, sports, neurologic, massage, pediatric, etc.
I would like to know what I must do to validate my foreign physical therapy degree in order to be able to work in the United States. I ask this because I’m sure there must be some differences in the “PT study program” from country to country. Should it be quite hard, or easy to be able to do so?
Thank you very much.
are there any nurses/doctors that can help me with my story’s timeline? i have a few questions?
Filed in The Category Pediatric Nursing
you can answer any of them:)
1. An ER doctor just finished her residency. How old would she be?
2. A peds doctor is two years out of his residency. How old would he be?
3. If a girl had Aspergers, could she be able to recite the spelling of any word from re-reading the dictionary?
4. If a girl had Aspergers and got into an accident, could she fall into a coma and have to have her head shaved, but then wave up?
thankss, sorry if they seem simple or dumb but im new at this:)
oops, i meant *wake up:)
Do speech pathologists earn into the six figures?
Filed in The Category Pediatric Hospitals
Not in public schools but those who work in hospitals or other rehabilitation organizations…
What about pediatric speech pathologists?
Also, what opportunities for advancement are there in this field?
Ownpool- thanks for your answer.
Do you know if speech therapy coupled with aba training (applied behavioral analysis for autism) is a good way to go with this?
Doctors are confusing me about my 5 week old?
Filed in The Category Pediatrician Recommendations
My daughter is almost 6 weeks old. She was on Enfamil Lipil for her first week. She had constant bms, about 10 times a day. Then she was on soy and lactose free formula which gave her painful gas. So then she was on gentlease until last Friday. She is now on Alimentum. I had told her pediatricians that she was allergic to milk, but they would not listen. I also told them she has acid reflux but they again didn’t listen. Last Thursday, she was screaming bloody murder for over a hour and I couldn’t get hurt to calm down. It was her feeding time, but she refused the bottle and continued to scream. I took her to an after hours pediatriciacs center at the recommendation of my pediatrician. They told me she definately has a milk allergy, acid reflux, an ear infection & a sore throat. However, my pediatrician did not allow for her to prescribe the drops for the acid reflux as they wanted to. So I took her to her pediatrician the next day & they said she didn’t have an ear infection. But they
said she does have a milk allergy and to put her on alimentum. They wouldn’t prescribe the acid drops. So my husband and I decided to get another opinion. We took her to an allergist. He said she does have an ear infection and prescribed the acid drops. Now I just spoke to her pediatrician and they are trying to say she doesn’t have acid reflux. She has constipation. Which she definately does not have. She did not have a bm on Saturday, but that was the first time ever. And she did not go because she is adjusting to the formula. And they do not believe she has an ear infection.
Any recommendation on which bottle/nipple combo for first time rice feedings?

We are now advised to start our little 4 month old daughter on rice with her formula for reflux per her pediatrician. The slow nipples we have been using clog up and the fast one’s are a little too fast. Any suggestions for easy steady flow with rice and formula? Thanks.

remedies to cure my 4 yrs old’s SEVERE constipation…?
Filed in The Category Pediatric Nursing
She was probably constipated for a long time but we didn’t notice it. why? bcz she used to go everyday once/twice… but HARD STOOLS… Being our first child, we thought it was normal. She’d complain of stomachache everytime and again I read toddlers get those too its normal.
Finally 3 months ago she was rushed to ER… constant peeing ……….. and UTIs.
Turns out the where the stools collect has been enlarged it’s pushing on the bladder so she’s having diffficulty peeing. Tonight only she has gone 15 times within an hour but very lil pee comes out.
Yes, she’s on miralax. It helps her but doesnt cure the problem.
ER visits, urologists, pediatritians…… have tired all of them.
XRAYS, ultrasounds.. We dont know what to do anymore.
I can go into more details what other methods we have tried… ex) laxative, took 3 peds ones, didnt make her go at alll… we were afraid she’ll throw up and get fever. but was ok.
enema, the er nurse gave her, made her go.. but hasn’t cure it.
we have given her 2 suppositries so far… 1st one worked, second one she went to bathroom too soon TONIGHT and it came out … was traumatized didnt want another one.
Hm.. sorry to make this long. I guess we ARE LOST.
I guess 1 more enema… then WATERY DIET.. no more nuggets, mac n cheeses etc… only soups veggies, watery chicken and rice etc etc…… fruits.. hmm..
problem is her diet has improved but hard to keep it EVERY SINGLE DAY..since sometimes I just go out… and even if half of her day she doesnt drink and eat properly we are back to square one.
It IS VERY STRESSFULL… …. ………
16 Month Old – Tooth Extraction: General Anesthetic, Local or fix?
Filed in The Category Pediatric Associates
Our 16 Month old had a horrible fall on the weekend which resulted in her smashing one of her front teeth (top) Its cracked, pushed up into the gum & the corner is broken off…. we took her to an emergency dentist who has recommended that we wait 10 days for it to break off (the bit that’s cracked) and then re-asses…. he is sure it will need to be removed in 10 days when we go back. In the mean time she has antibiotics to kill the (potential) infection and strong pain meds (she seems fine) just in case.
Now, my question is this: The dentist says he can’t inject or consciously sedate her cos she’s too young. He will numb the area with a cream & then pull the tooth while I hold her (OH MY GOD)! I’ve phoned a paediatric dentist to enquire what they do & they say they will put her under with anesthetic & she’ll go into theatre…. this has its own risks of course, but seems kinder. The first dentist assures me she won’t feel it and doesn’t seem that concerned over the potential trauma to her (and me)
Can anyone give me any advice or guidance – given how young she is, should/could the tooth be fixed? What are the risks associated with a GA for such a young child? Would it be truly awful for her to have her tooth pulled with only a gum-numbing spray/gel?
