Generally speaking, workers in pediatric hospitals/pediatric units have the same training, duties and responsibilities as their adult-serving counterparts. What's different is their understanding of and empathy toward children. Kids also get sicker quicker and recover more rapidly.
If you have time (given the ages of your kids), spend a couple of weeks volunteering in a kids hospital, soothing and entertaining kids and watching what each discipline actually does. You'll probably find that the nursing assistants spend the most quality time with the kids, but their salary grade will barely pay for your child care. The RNs are well paid, and can make a dramatic difference in the care each patient receives.
good luck
