He has been off school since November. He has seen pediatrician, pediatric respirologist, ENT, chest/lung specialist and our family doctor. No one can tell me when this explosive coughing will stop!

A couple of months or more. When I look at this and your previous post together you seem to describe a fairly typical course. A typical patient, too, since the vaccine protection disappears at his age. As a Respiratory Therapist, I can only recall a couple of cases in thirty years. I’m sure the docs see more in the offices. Just lucky to be mainly in a suburban area, I guess.

Thirty years still learning.
From what I have learned, though, it is not hard to understand why there is such a buzz about it. The coughing is so severe the kids are literally exhausted. Beyond the respiratory aspects, it interferes with eating and lasts so long that the nutritional status becomes an issue in small children or those already compromised.

Good luck, Mom. It will pass
Edit friday am:
two months or longer total, but it seems forever.
Unaware of re-vaccination, but it confirms what I said – these vaccinations wear off during adolescence, glad it was updated. These vaccines have an 80-85 effectiveness, read that as 10-15% not effective
I am curious as to whether there was a culture & sensitivity (C&S) done.
If I understand correctly, this area is mainly for one-shot questions without follow-ups. But feel free to e-mail me, I hate case discussions without outcomes
