Referred To Pediatric Pulmonary Specialist, What To Expect?

Filed in Category Pediatric Specialists

My almost two-year-old has been referred to a pediatric pulmonary specialist, and I am just wondering what to expect during his initial appointment. My son has had numerous bronchial infections, bronchitis, bronchiolitis, as well as pneumonia four times. Has anyone else been to a pediatric pulmonary specialist? I am a bit nervous for the appointment….

yes, my daughter had pneumonia twice and was diagnosed with asthma and had numerous asthma-related ER visits, and was sent to a pediatric pulmonologist. i don’t recall anything invasive happening during the visit. as i recall, most of the visit just involved taking a detailed medical history. she ended up prescribing daily asthma control medications for my daughter — which very dramatically improved my daughter’s health. hopefully you’ll get a good result, as well. no need to worry!
edit — we were also sent for a cystic fibrosis test because of the two pneumonias. that was somewhat more invasive (though not horrible) … but i don’t believe it was part of the pulmonologist visit; i think it was a separate specialist.

We went to one for my 8 year old. He had some pretty intense issues that were found to be due to his obstructive sleep apnea.
The first visit just consists of questions to get more information about the patient. They may do a quick exam to see if they can detect anything unusual, or to decide the next step.
    No sweat.
