I am a high school senior and i will be graduating early in january. i would like to go to community and get me associates in nursing to become and RN and then transfer to wayne state to eventually become a pediatric surgeon. what exactly would that process be? In other words what classes would i have to take, do i apply to a pre-med program at wayne then med school or do i apply right to the medical school? Nobody can give me answers, not even our crappy counselors at school.
any help would be appreciated!
thanks

hey I’m doing that right now I’m a freshamn at a community college getting my associate’s in nursing..then I will transfer to a university to get my bachelor’s..and as for the classes don’t worry about that your advisor will put you in the classes you should be taking to pertain your associate’s in nursing…as for the pred med, med school thingy idk i guess Wayne will help you figure that out…hey and I see you want to be a pediatric surgeon..I want to be a pediatric nurse…well I can see we both love children huh
You have a good head on your shoulders to seek a career to pay for med school!!
Some Community College’s Nursing Associates programs ask you take Anatomy w/ Physiology w/ one lab as a combined course like 4 or 5 hour credit. But premed will always require you take Anatomy w/ lab 4 hours and Physiology w/ lab 4 hours.
Also, a nursing associates and premed will require different basics which differ from state to state. For example: History classes and government classes are MUST have General Education classes for premed but Associates in Nursing doesn’t always require this. If you need more specific help then send me your prospective schools in an e-mail on my profile and I would be happy to help.
An Associates in nursing may require you take one year of general ed classes, then you apply to the 2 year Nursing program. You are awesome to have such a realistic view on college. I was premed and it was overwhelming to me because I was working a minimum wage part-time job. I now have 96 college credit but burned out w/ an Associates in Liberal Science. Do the nursing progam, pace yourself, and know that many nurses make over $80,000.00 a year if they travel, specialize, or whatever. Good luck man!
