I just answered you last one so I will just repeat it here:IN Peds, hospitalists do NOT cover the PICU or the NICU–there are boarded intensivists & neonatologists for that. Hospitalists also do not cover the ER (there are peds ER docs for that). Usually hospitalists admit to the floors (from the ER or where ever) and then field calls from all the general med – surg floors ffrom nurses with questions/concerns/changes about patients whose main doc is community based & not available. so they followup on lab results, xrays, order meds, treatments, tests, etc to help out the attending off site.
So specifically, they cover the non-critical floors (where a specialist is not needed)
