I have a 7 month old and I started putting him to bed about 10pm when he was 6 weeks old and he has stuck with that routine.He sleeps until 7am.

my baby didn’t get into a routine until she was 6 months old, and her doctor didn’t recommended doing so until that time anyway. i would wait until your baby is a little older before putting him on a routine

I’d say 9 weeks is still a little early for a routine. Of course, it can’t hurt to sort of get one going… but expect it to change quite a bit. My daughter went through several different routines before she actually settled on one.

9 weeks may still be a bit early but its worth a shot. The sooner you can get them on a routine the better. i started my son at about that age and hes now 10 months and he goes down at 8pm and sleeps until 8am its been this way since he was about 3-4 months old

well, i only have one, but that would have been impossible; it’s still impossible, she has her own schedule that she has loosely made around ours; her dad works second shift, so when he gets home is when she is usually getting ready to go to sleep for the night…there is no way i could ‘make’ her go to sleep at 8 or 9…..we just sorta let her set her routine, she gets up pretty early, but she does still take lots of naps so she makes up for it in her own way; she’s seven mos today btw

A baby will sleep when they want to. My daughter goes to bed anywhere bwteeen midnight and 2am. She kind of works off my schedule..
A baby knows when they need to eat, as well, so they will continue to wake up as often as needed to get the nutrition they need to thrive. 3-4 hours is great, really.
You can try by dimming the lights and making baby comfortable, but don’t get frustrated if he/she does not go to sleep at 8 or 9pm.
Consider nursing your baby to sleep. This is what i do. It works wonderfully for us and despite what my doctor suggested, there is nothing at all wrong with it. It depends on what time she was going to bed before. If it was a lot later, you’ll need to ease into it, a little bit earlier each night. But also you know your home life schedule, and what goes on with your baby, your doctor doesn’t. I’m just saying that because all though I love my pediatrition, I went in there 2 1/2 weeks ago with my 9 week old and he told me the same thing, he also told me I should just put her in and leave her if she cries. I asked how long I should leave her there for, and he told me I should go in there at least for an hour and a half. Don’t think so buddy. So I met in the middle with what works with mine and my babies schedule. She goes to bed between 8 and 9 if she cries I go in and soothe her, rub her belly and such but don’t pick her up, then leave. She’s been doing pretty good. Some nights she goes right to bed on her own, and others a may have to go in there a time or two, but she still is only 12 weeks old.

Patience is key. It will take a while for a baby to adjust to a routine. I am a mother of two,2&5. Try and keep her awake more during the day and maybe she’ll sleep longer at night. If you feel she is not ready to go to bed at a certain time then use your judgment, the doctor is not always right. It took us a few months to get into a good routine. Babies that age are usually sleeping most of the time anyway. Just try to keep her awake more during the day and work from there. Good luck.

You answered your own question, it’s to start a routine that you can use later on. My kids go to bed at 7:30-8pm every night since birth and they both sleep all night and get up at 8am. Or when they were newborns woke up around the same times to eat at night.
