Would Palin As Vp Be The Biggest Political Catastrophe In Decades?

Here’s what I found on politico.com. Does anyone agree?
Drew Westen, Psychologist and neuroscientist writes:
“We’ve seen what happens when “the average person” becomes president. The world is simply too complex to do that again. She wants to be a heartbeat away from becoming the leader of the free world behind a 72 year old man with a recurrent deadly illness and she gives answers like she’s in a beauty pageant and hasn’t even followed the news enough over the last 6 years to know what the Bush Doctrine is. It’s fine for the average person not to know, but it’s not fine for someone who could become President at any moment, any more than it’s fine for your pediatric oncologist to say, “Ah, gee whiz, I don’t read what’s in those fancy medical magazines—I just give it my all and pray a lot when I see a sick child.” Time for a second opinion. Reduce…
Whether her performance tonight maintains or diminishes her ticket’s standing in the polls will depend entirely on whether the Obama campaign decides to tell a story about her, rather than challenging isolated statements, and relate it to the last 8 years. If they pick away at isolated facts or say nothing, which has been their primary approach to her thus far, people will continue to find her performances endearing. If they paint her as just like Bush, people will find her far less endearing. In fact, she’s just like Bush in multiple respects. They both seem like great people to have a beer with (if either one of them drank—they’d actually both be lousy bar-mates unless you’re sipping Virgin Marys). But you wouldn’t ever send your child to see her if she were a doctor and your child had leukemia, any more than you would with Bush, because doctors have to know something, and you wouldn’t put your child’s life in the hands of someone who doesn’t even pretend to know much and who has to “cram” for her exams with Charlie Gibson just to pass. We’ve seen what happens when “the average person” becomes president. Like Bush, she also seems to view truth as optional, and most Americans have had enough of that as well. But those are stories the Obama campaign is going to have to tell, tell effectively, and tell repeatedly. Isolated “facts” will just bounce off a folksy persona like hail off a bridge to nowhere.”

omg YES!! I am literally shuddering at the prospect. I mean, being independent I had already made my choice (Barack), but to think that McCain let us down with this pick is beyond comprehension. I wanted to see Barack challenged with intellect, not with ‘woman things and political choices’ to insure that when I voted this time, it would be counted as something that I had intellectually done for the good of the country and it’s people and not for the corporations that are faithful only to the upper management….I am still wallowing in disbelief….Thanks for asking a direct, important question that maybe will take blinders off those who feel it is ‘exciting’ to have her on the ticket instead of intelligent…

No, the election of Barack Hussein Obama would be the biggest political disaster in American History, similar to the election of Adolf Hitler to power in Germany.

1st. There is no Bush Doctrine. Gibson was off his game and looked like he did not want to bother. Your above rant says nothing that would lead one to believe she would not be an appropriate one to lead the nation. Peace

No, that honor goes to Barack Obama, the biggest inexperienced joke ever. The Republicans laugh at their jokes, i.e. Ron Paul, they don’t nominate them.

  11. byronmil on October 20, 2009 4:16 pm

Unqualified but pretty is hardly what the country needs in a crisis.

The McCain/Palin ticket should shut down asap. It is a disaster in the making.

  14. delphi on October 20, 2009 5:18 pm

Nope…that was Cheney. I suspect she will be the equivalent to Dan Quayle.

first rule of detecting thinly veiled propaganda: Keep an eye out for someone who presents his academic creditials before actually making his point.
second rule of detecting thinly veiled propaganda: does the author apply all his “qualifications” against one candidate but not the other?
…sounds like he’s saying McCain is the only one qualified on either ticket….

Were you alive for Jimmy Carter?
    11% Unemployment
    21% Mortgage Interest rates
    14% Inflation rates
A gas crisis with 4 hours lines at gas stations
400 Americans being held hostage in Iran for over a year.
    Talk about a political catastrophe.

ABSOLUTELY! The thought of Palin as VP scares the *** out of me! It scares me more than the Russians scared me when I was a kid. It scares me more than the threat of nuclear war scared me when I was a kid. It’s a terrifying thought!

I absolutely agree. That is great. I needed that so badly. When you are sick then you want the most capable doctor, not someone that is just like you unless you are a very capable doctor. The world is complex. Sarah treats it like a joke almost. She is laughable and appalling. But if people aren’t smart or astute enough to see through it then what can you do. A very wise friend of mine said that maybe ignorance or wilful ignorance is evil. I can relate to that because my superiors don’t seem to read anything. It’s not that they don’t have the time. They do. Trying to take notes from them is a lesson is speed note taking. They have 0 empathy. God forbid you ask for clarification because they look at you like you are a moron and you want to say, I’m not the moron, you are the moron here and you are very lazy. One of them is never here. He’s “traveling”. It’s been proven to be a lie by another manager here.
edit: With the internet, it’s appalling that she had no idea about the Bush doctrine. I either had forgotten or hadn’t heard that term before or didn’t pay attention to it but I found a plethora of information on the internet about it. I knew what it was but not by that terminology or I may have forgotten. I just recently finished my MBA and I’m studying music theory, etc. It’s not like I’m not using my mind here. That info got pushed further back.

Politico.com= a liberal thinktank. More sexism from the left. Just keep it comin. Women recognize sexism for what it is….And will vote for Sarah in Novemeber because of it.

No. Jimmy Carter was a few decades ago, and is the worst of all time
